Fibrocit

History

>> In 1920 Anthony Neuckens, together with his wife, set up a company in Vorst to import and install 'fibro-cement' sheets from Germany. This gave rise to the name FIBROCIT.
These sheets are mainly used as acoustic wall and ceiling cladding for theatres and cinemas.
Through many contacts with theatre and cinema owners, the question arose as to whether Fibrocit was able to supply comfortable theatre and cinema seats.
Mr Neuckens therefore began importing cinema seats, also from Germany, with his first achievement being the famous Cinema Agora in Brussels.

>> In early 1937 'Etablissements Fibrocit' was founded and in-house production of theatre and cinema seats began. At the same time the business was transferred to Masuistraat in Brussels.

>> 1941: Fire. The whole production area, located on three storeys, went up in flames. Only the office area could be saved.
A run-down factory was then purchased in Zuun and completely modernised with the best production technologies available at the time. Sales and administration, however, remained at Masuistraat

>> April 1968 the family sold its interests to Generale Maatschappij, which immediately merged Fibrocit with 'Ancienne Sociéte d'Exploitation des Ateliers Stéphane Jasinski', which was also active in the wood sector.

>> In January 1970 Fibrocit was taken over by the Kortrijk company 'Kunstwerkstede De Coene'. After that company went into liquidation the NV Point from Oudenaarde took over the assets and customers of Fibrocit, where attention was mainly devoted to manufacturing and installing fixed seating for theatres, lecture theatres, cinemas etc., and also designing and manufacturing designer furniture.

>> In 1979 Fibrocit was taken over by its current owner, the Paul Potteau Group. Under the impetus of this change, Fibrocit grew to become the absolute market leader in the Benelux with a current market share of 85% in Belgium and 60% in the Netherlands. This is also expressed in its sales figures, rising from € 600,000 in 1980 to € 4,000,000 in 2002.

>> 20 June 1993: Fire broke out and destroyed the whole premises. The whole production unit and the entire stock of finished seats went up in flames.
Nevertheless Fibrocit managed to serve all its customers on time during the summer of 1993, thanks to the hard work of the whole team. In April 1995 the new factory was finished, with an increased production area (3500m2) and a new showroom (350m2).

>> During the past few years the expansion has continued, with breakthroughs in France, Germany and the UK. In 2000 an exclusive sales agreement was also signed with Audience Systems from the UK, the European market leader in telescopic platforms, allowing us to extend our own range to include a whole series of platforms and platform seats.
